ఏ పోటీ పరీక్ష అయినా ఎగ్జామినర్‌కి తప్పకుండా మదిలో మెదిలే అంశం ఇంధనాలు. సాంప్రదాయికంగా వాడుకలో ఉన్న పిడకలు, కలప మొదలుకొని ఎల్పీజీ, గోబర్ గ్యాస్ లాంటివన్నీ ఇంధనాలే. సాధారణంగా పెట్రోల్, కిరోసిన్, డీజిల్ లాంటి ద్రవ ఇంధనాలు; ఎల్పీజీ, సీఎన్‌జీ లాంటి వాయు ఇంధనాలకు ఆధారం పెట్రోలియం. క్రూడ్ ఆయిల్‌ను ‘పాక్షిక అంశిక స్వేదన’ పద్ధతిలో రిఫైనరీల్లో శుద్ధిచేసి మార్కెట్లోకి విడుదల చేస్తారు. పోటీ పరీక్షల్లో ఈ ప్రక్రియకు సంబంధించిన ప్రశ్నలతోపాటు వివిధ ఉష్ణోగ్రతల వద్ద ఏయే అనుఘటకాలు వస్తాయో అడిగే అవకాశం ఉంది.



ఉదాహరణకు మొదట సహజవాయువు వస్తుంది. చివరగా ‘తారు’ మిగులుతుంది. వివిధ ఇంధనాల్లోని రసాయన పదార్థాల గురించి కూడా అడగవచ్చు. సాధారణంగా ఏ ఇంధనమైనా వివిధ హైడ్రోకార్బన్ల మిశ్రమం. ఉదాహరణకు ఎల్పీజీలో ప్రధాన అనుఘటకం ‘బ్యూటేన్’, సహజ వాయువులో ఉండే ప్రధాన వాయువు ‘మీథేన్’. ఇవేకాకుండా జీవ వ్యర్థాల నుంచి తయారయ్యేది బయోగ్యాస్. పేడ నుంచి తయారయ్యేది గోబర్ గ్యాస్. రెండింట్లోనూ ప్రధాన అనుఘటకం మీథేన్. ఇవన్నీ హైడ్రోకార్బన్లే. అంటే కార్బన్, హైడ్రోజన్‌లతో నిర్మితమై ఉన్నాయి.



వీటిని మండించినప్పుడు కార్బన్ డై ఆక్సైడ్, నీటి ఆవిరి వెలువడతాయి. రాకెట్లలో తక్కువ బరువుండి ఎక్కువ శక్తినిచ్చే ఇంధనాలు కావాలి. ద్రవ హైడ్రోజన్ మంచి ఇంధనం. ఇది మండినప్పుడు కేవలం నీరు విడుదలవుతుంది. ఇది పర్యావరణ హితమైన (నష్టం చేయని) ఇంధనం. ప్రతి గ్రాముకి ఎంత శక్తివిడుదలవుతుందనేది ఆ ఇంధన సామర్థ్యాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది. దేనికి ఎక్కువ కెలోరిఫిక్ విలువ ఉంటే దాని సామర్థ్యం అధికం. ఇంధనాలపై ఇలాంటి ప్రశ్నలు అడుగుతారు. అలాగే హైడ్రోకార్బన్ల గురించి తప్పనిసరిగా చదవాలి.
